What this estimate calculator does
Most tile calculators only count tiles. This one builds a full project estimate — every area and every material in one place, totalled the way a real quotation works:
- Add each area — bathroom floor and wall, kitchen floor and wall, room floors and walls, outdoor wall, or a custom area. Add the same type more than once if a house has two bathrooms.
- Price tiles by the box — enter the area, what one box covers (printed on the box), and the price per box. The calculator works out how many boxes are needed (rounded up to whole boxes) and the cost.
- Add the kitchen slab — granite priced by area, or tiles priced by the box.
- Add materials — adhesive, grout, quick adhesive, epoxy, border tiles, or any custom item, each entered by quantity and price. Add only what the customer wants.

Why tiles are priced by the box
Tiles aren’t sold loose — they come in boxes, and each box covers a fixed area and holds a set number of pieces. Two boxes of the “same” tile can cover different areas, so comparing box prices directly is misleading. This calculator asks for the area one box covers and the price per box, then divides your area by the coverage and rounds up to whole boxes — because you can’t buy half a box. That gives a realistic material cost, not a rough guess.
A note on getting an accurate estimate
An estimate is only as good as the numbers you put in. A few things to keep it realistic:
- Measure each area properly — length × breadth for floors, and the full wall area for bathrooms and kitchens.
- Add a little extra for waste — cutting and breakage mean you buy slightly more than the exact area; keeping a spare box from the same batch is wise.
- Include the materials — adhesive and grout are real costs; leaving them out makes the estimate look cheaper than the job actually is.

How do I estimate the cost of tiling a room? Add up four things: tiles, adhesive, grout, and labour. Price tiles by the box (area ÷ box coverage, rounded up, × price per box), add materials by quantity, then add labour and GST if needed. This calculator does the tile and material maths for you and gives an itemised total.
Why does the calculator ask for the area one box covers? Because tiles are sold by the box, and boxes cover different areas. Entering the box’s coverage and price lets the tool work out exactly how many boxes you need and the real cost, instead of guessing.
Can I add more than one bathroom or room? Yes. Add each area as its own line — you can add “Bathroom Floor” or “Room Wall” as many times as you need for a house with several bathrooms or rooms.
Does it include GST? Only if you want it to. GST is an optional toggle with an editable rate, so you can add 5%, 18% or any rate — or leave it off if your prices already include GST.
